Research interests include physical oceanography in coastal oceans and novel data analysis methods in meteorology and oceanography. Current work is focused on the eastern Gulf of Mexico where the West Florida Shelf connects the offshore deep water (the Loop Current system) and the estuaries (Tampa Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Florida Bay). Using coordinated coastal ocean observing and numerical modeling, we aim to understand the ocean circulation dynamics and processes of Loop Current - shelf/slope interactions, and their consequences in coastal marine ecosystems, such as harmful algal blooms, and fishery, at different time scales.
